Prologue: September 15, Chapters 1-5 Summary

Myron Bolitar becomes involved in the life of Brenda Slaughter, rising basketball star, when Norm Zuckerman requests his help. Brenda's personal life is more complicated than Myron had imagined, and his personal life becomes more complicated the more time they spend together.

In the prologue, Myron waits at a cemetery. A man approaches and Myron states that the man has killed her. The man agrees, and Myron asks him if he is happy. The stranger asks Myron the same question.

Chapter one finds Myron reporting to Norm Zuckerman, the CEO of Zoom. Norm is worried that the future star of the WPBA is in danger and wants Myron to keep an eye on her.
