Summary
On November 3, Jack is pretending to be brushing his teeth when Billy tells him he has a visitor. He thinks of who he cannot be and hopes it is not his mother. He is surprised to see that it is Laurie. He asks her where Oscar is, calling him “posh boy” (255). She reminds him that his name is Oscar. It is mid morning. Laurie declines his offer for a drink, but he drinks. They talk about his current state, and Laurie tries to get him to be his old self again. She says she wants to help and be his friend. He kisses her, but she rejects him. He accuses her of accepting his kiss when she was low and he tried to help, but not helping him now. He grabs her starfish necklace, and she jerks away.
