Summary

Since Barney has helped him realize that his parents are dead, Felix tells his reader that he hates stories. He believes his parents would have been better off selling guns than selling books. Zelda puts the silver chain and locket she wears around Felix’s neck to make him feel better. When Zelda puts her hand on Felix’s head, he notices how hot her hand feels. Felix calls for Barney when Zelda tells him she has a fever and then falls to the floor.

Because Barney needs to stay with Zelda, he sends Felix out to find some aspirin. That night, there are Nazi soldiers out in the streets. Felix finds a bottle of aspirin in the second apartment he visits. Instead of going back immediately, Felix looks for a carrot to make soup for Zelda. Felix does find a carrot, but...
