Inti Flynn
Inti Flynn is the novel’s narrator and protagonist. She was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. She has a PhD in environmental ecology, she is in her thirties, and her work primarily concerns the study and conservation of wolf populations. During the main storyline, her main work project is that of reintroducing wolves to Scotland, in order to reverse the ecological effects of wolves hunted to extinction there. She has a medical condition called mirror-touch synesthesia, which causes her to feel other people’s physical sensations when observing those people.
Inti once attempted to kill her sister Aggie’s abusive husband, but she was unable to do so because of her synesthesia, so she merely intimidated him into leaving permanently.
