Summary
Chapter 1 opens with a flashback to the childhood of the protagonist, Inti Flynn. She has a twin sister named Aggie. They were born and raised in Australia. Their father was a hunter and naturalist. One day, he showed them how to skin a rabbit. Inti and Aggie watched as he began to cut into the dead rabbit’s skin. Inti screamed, as she felt the pain of being cut while she watched her father cut the rabbit. She was later diagnosed with mirror-touch synesthesia, which causes her to feel touch sensations similar to what other people are feeling, whenever she is observing a person. In the present day, Inti has recently moved to Scotland for work. She has a PhD in environmental ecology, and she is working with a team of people to reintroduce wolves to Scotland.
