The Bronx
The Bronx is one of the five boroughs of New York City, and is the poorest, most desolate area of New York. It is where Dahlia lives in an apartment building with many other people, and it is where Dahlia attends her aunt’s funeral. The Bronx is diverse, largely black and Hispanic. It is controlled by the Sturmers gang, who often battle with the criminal Favelos gang who terrorize the local residents, though the Sturmers themselves are not any better. Nevertheless, the Bronx is home for Dahlia, and she consistently looks forward to returning home, which she does at the end of the novel.
