Dahlia Grillo
Dahlia Grillo is the sixteen year-old Latina narrator and principal protagonist of the novel “On a Clear Day” by Walter Dean Myers. After the death of her mother, Dahlia is raised in the Bronx by her aunt, who dies before the beginning of the novel. Though she is mathematical genius, Dahlia feels as if she has no Purpose in life anymore. Much of this is brought on by being without her mother and her aunt. She is dissatisfied with life, and either wants something more, or wants everything to end. But it is clear that Dahlia is intended for more important things than irrelevance and death.
She is selected by the American Resistance to become a part of the core team determined to challenge the power of the C-8. There, Dahlia becomes quick friends with Anja, develops romantic feelings for Michael, and constantly butts heads with Mei-Mei...
