5. This chapter begins with a conversation between Mitchell, Jane, and a female representative from FEMA (Federal Emergency Measures Agency), showing them the trailer where they are to live back on Randall’s Island, and asking Mitchell (still referred to as The Prophet) what is going to happen next. The narrative then flashes back to Mitchell and Jane getting driven by Judy to a bus depot, where they bribed a driver to take them back to New York to start building Future Days. On the drive, Mitchell contemplated the foolishness of Elsa’s utopian ideas, blaming himself for not insisting that she leave, and also for not going after her.
