Summary

The novel opens with Book One “The Game Plan” and a picture of a half basketball court with arrows, circles, and the word “Jupe” in the middle. Chapter 1 is titled, “I, Courtney Aloysius Cooper IV, Should Be a Very Sad Dude” (1). It starts in the first person voice from Courtney as he recounts to the reader how he should be devastated as he enters the room of his “Best Friend” (2). As he walks in he notices her short shorts and “blooming” “assets” (2). Jupe texts and Coop thinks, “Who the hell is she even talking to?” (3). He sits in the La-Z-boy in her room that belonged to his dad.
