Summary
In “The Fence (one week later),” the fence describes the things that people bring to the fence in honor of Shepard. It reports of the experience: “but I don’t mind / being a shrine / is better than being / the scene of the crime” (45).
In “Stand By Your Man,” Chastity Pasley, the girlfriend of Henderson, tells how she helped Henderson get rid of his bloody clothes and shoes after he told her that he beat someone up. She indicates that because she believed him, she incriminated herself.
In “Accessory,” Kristen Price, the girlfriend of McKinney, speaks in this poem indicating that she is being called an accessory to McKinney’s crime. In hindsight, she realizes how dumb she was to support him even though he told her he thought he had killed someone.
