Summary
In "Revolution Shuffle," an unnamed young woman and man climbed to the top of the hill in moonlight. They sat and talked about what they missed from their old lives. While talking, they watched "the rough silhouettes of nine giant metal pistons" rise up and down in the distance (8). They were looking at the work camps below. Not long before, "Asian Americans and Arabs" had been imprisoned in the camps (8).
The woman closed her eyes, as she "often did . . . before she did something reckless" (8).
This "new America" had begun after "the epidemic hit" (10). China, North Korea, and the Middle East were blamed. The government used the camp to sequester "Americans of Asian and Arab descent" (10). The government said it was for everyone's "best interest" (11). When people of color protested the camps, they were also imprisoned.
