Summary
In Chapter 9, the narrative goes back in time to Alicia Snow's actions after Lucas' and Bob's departure. She calls Jack Cattaneo to inform him of their visit. She tells him that she mentioned Patty Pittman's disappearance because he told her that it was not related to him and his men. He tells her to stay calm and says that he is going to talk to some men. Then he lies and says his wife is coming. He also lied about Patty's disappearance. His wife, who is a good artist and is painting, cannot eat yet, so he says he is going for a walk. She suggests that he pick up a salad, but he suggests meeting some friends for dinner.
