Beijing Duck House
The Beijing Duck House symbolizes family legacy. After the Han family immigrated to the United States, Bobby Han opened the Beijing Duck House in order to support himself and his family. In the years since Bobby’s death, the other family members have had complicated relationships with the restaurant as an extension of Bobby’s legacy. Most notably, Jimmy feels overshadowed by the restaurant and wants to open his own.
The Beijing Glory
The Beijing Glory represents the often precarious and hollow nature of personal ambition. Jimmy has no financial need to open another restaurant, but he feels inadequate simply operating the restaurant that his father established. Jimmy plans for the Glory to be high-end and highly profitable, but it is ultimately only mediocre.
