Summary
Chapter 1 opens in the city of Rockville, Maryland, at a Chinese restaurant called the Beijing Duck House. The restaurant is currently operated by Jimmy Han, son of the restaurant’s now deceased founder, Bobby Han. Jimmy desires to open a new, more high-end restaurant in Washington, D.C. In order to help him accomplish this, he enlists the help of a man called Uncle Pang, who has much influence among both criminals and law-abiding citizens in the greater D.C. area. Pang has no actual familial relationship to any of the other characters. Pang had been an advisor and friend of Bobby Han. Pang has recently helped Jimmy find a rentable space for Jimmy’s planned new restaurant, the Beijing Glory.
