Chapter 3, "Video Games" Summary
On his twentieth birthday, one week after his sleepless night, two weeks after his afternoon in the Jupiter Cafy, Eiji is killing time by playing video games in a Shibuya arcade. Before leaving the arcade, Eiji gets into a brief discussion with a slightly older Tokyoite who watches him play while waiting for a date.
Afterward, Eiji wanders the streets for a short time, exploring the area before choosing a cheap restaurant for dinner. Earlier, Eiji received several birthday cards, but he also received another letter, this one from his father's wife, who has been informed by Ms. Kato that Eiji has been asking about her husband. In the letter, she first uses his illegitimate status to try and shame him. Then she accuses him of attempted blackmail and threatens him if he does not keep away...
