Summary
In Chapter 5, Nora spends her first week on Scupper Island napping and lying in front of the television. In her laziness she reflects how “since the Big Bad event [she’d] put a lot of effort into life” (55), trying not to be a downer and giving Bobby his freedom. She also recalls how, upon Bobby’s departure from the apartment, she would lock the doors and windows and place a chair in front of the door. Now, she enjoys doing nothing and does not mind being alone.
One evening, Nora checks her email and gets two messages, one from Rosaline, who sends a picture of her holding a voodoo doll of Bobby, and the other a message from Bobby, telling her the apartment seems “too big” (57).
