Summary
In Chapter 6, Ben remembers the first poem he wrote when he was in the third grade. He thought it was awful, but his mother found it and showed it to everyone. It was how he came to respect privacy. As an adult, he realizes his mother was proud of him, but he is also aware that some things are not meant for the public. He does not know how to explain to Fallon that he will not allow her to read the novel he is writing. The writing has become therapeutic because it is helping him to straighten out his messed-up life.
Ben has been waiting two hours for Fallon to show up when she finally gets a message to him that her flight was delayed. She is on her way from the airport. Ben tells her it would be quicker...
