Summary
In Chapter 3, narrated by Fallon, Fallon’s mother taught Fallon it was important not to fall in love until she fully knew herself. Her mother believes that 23 is the age a woman finally knows herself, which is, ironically, the same year she divorced Fallon’s father. Because Fallon’s mother has always been right, Fallon has chosen to follow her advice. Even though Fallon had wanted to kiss Ben when he told her she was beautiful, she does not because she is trying to follow her mother’s advice.
Fallon’s roommate, Amber stares when Fallon and Ben walk into the apartment. Fallon introduces Ben as her boyfriend as Amber narrows her eyes. As Fallon leads the way to her room, Ben jokes to Amber that he is going to find out what kind of panties Fallon is wearing.
