Summary
As Chapter 2 continues, Madison and Lillian return to Madison’s home. Lillian watches Timothy play make-believe, and Lillian recalls how her own mother tried to quash her imagination when Lillian was young. Jasper soon arrives home, and Lillian meets him for the first time. He has the stereotypical physical appearance of a male politician. He is fairly charming, but Lillian can sense that he is likely superficial and selfish. He also appears to be less excited than Madison about Lillian’s presence there. In Chapter 3, Lillian and Carl drive to another part of the state to pick up Bessie and Roland. They are currently staying Jasper’s parents. Lillian asks Carl about himself, and he says that he used to be a private investigator. They arrive at the house and see that Jasper’s parents are fairly negligent towards the twin.
