Point of View
The mixed points of view that the book presents provide a tense, yet compelling, narrative. The story is mostly in the third person, but in alternating limited points of view. This provides a more omniscient perspective on the characters and their activities. The omniscient voice is embodied in the first-person narration of Gossip Girl herself, whose identity is never revealed. She passes commentary on the characters' activities, and lets the reader know what to think about their various goings-ons. Other first-person narratives take over at various points in the form of emails and letters written by certain characters to the others. The reader experiences Aaron's passion first-hand through his email to Vanessa, while the quirky summer activities proposed by the Evergreen professor give a sense of Dan's alternatives.
