Summary
Back at the apartment, in the following chapter, the housekeeper Judy knocked on Arthur’s door. Judy asked Arthur for a quarter in exchange for a letter that had arrived for him. Arthur playfully tried to grab the letter from Judy without giving her a quarter. Arthur wondered whether Judy was deliberately staying close to him when he pulled her towards him and was disappointed when she quickly moved away from him when he let her go. Judy left the apartment and Arthur opened the letter.
The letter was from Arthur’s father, Hollis Maxley, explaining that he had been abroad, apologized for not being in touch more often, and invited Arthur to have dinner with him that evening.
