Summary
Section 19 describes a land disagreement that worried James during the end of his life. The town of Abba belonged to the Igbo, but after the Biafran war, the next town over (with a land-greedy billionaire) decided to lay claim to it. Adichie is frustrated and angry that her father had to endure the infighting over land. She wishes that the end of his life had been freer from stress. Section 20 is a fond remembrance of how devoted James was to his eighth grandchild, Adichie's four-year-old daughter. Once when his granddaughter was screaming downstairs in the care of Adichie's mother, James was sent up for a pacifier. He raced upstairs to ask Adichie for help, but he could not remember the word for pacifier, so he gestures to his mouth and says "mouth plug" (49).
