Summary

Section 7 makes the claim that June 10, 2020 was the worst day of Adichie's life. The author also explains how and why she feels so guilty about her father's death. She had been playing with her young daughter in the days before James's death, and she suffered a concussion. For this reason, she did not make her usual daily calls to her parents. She feels overwhelmed with guilt, and she worries about her brother Okey who was present at his father's death. He is a sensitive young man and will take his father's death especially hard. The cause of death is given as complications from kidney disease; there was an infection present in James's body, and it exacerbated the pre-existing kidney disease.
