Lacy Crawford
Lacy Crawford is the author and first person narrator of Notes on a Silencing. Crawford grew up in a wealthy family in Chicago, Illinois. An advanced student, she entered St. Paul’s School, an elite boarding school in Concord, New Hampshire, as a sophomore. Though she recognized the privilege of attending such an esteemed high school, Crawford struggled to assimilate to her new environment during her first year. She constantly begged her parents to let her leave, but they insisted she stay. In her second year, Crawford felt more comfortable at St. Paul’s. She was excelling academically and athletically, and had found a close group of friends. However, after two senior boys sexually assaulted her, Crawford’s experience at SPS was tainted. She chose to remain silent about the attack, fearing she would lose her place at the school, and ruin her reputation.
