Ven Marzouki

Ven is the narrator of this story. He is a child as the story opens. He is greatly affected by the events that take place during his childhood – the fire, Vae's death, and seeing the kakuy. He claims this did not play a significant role in his decision to join the Temple. As an adult, he is a member of the Temple who specializes in translating archaic texts. He becomes an inquisitor, meaning he is a spy who works for the Temple. Ven is living under the name Kadri Tarrad when Georg first finds him. He is later captured and held as Georg's prisoner, and he is called Pityr during that time. Ven exhibits different attitudes and actions during his time living as Kadri and Pityr, and he seems to sometimes struggle with his true identity.
