Summary
As a young girl, she had a fear of becoming anorexic. She had read articles and seen photos of emaciated girls. She imagined looking in a mirror at your 80 pound frame thinking you were fat. Lena was born fat – eleven pounds with three chins. She didn’t crawl; she rolled. The fat was gone by the time she went to kindergarten. She was a confident eight-year old on a beach in Mexico wearing a bikini. She gained weight after eighth grade when she started her period. A senior in high school told her she looked like a bowling ball with a hat. Her mother said it was hormonal. She became a vegan that ultimately morphed into an eating disorder. She savored “Cathy” comics that her grandmother clipped and sent to her.
