Summary
Vicky is upset that she has lost a photograph her father gave her of himself and his mother. It was the only photo that her father had. He had asked her to take care of it. Her mother is livid that she has misplaced it. The painting Vic made from the photo is finished, but her mother tells her the photo is a great deal more important. Vicky leaves on her bike, rides the trail to the bridge, and keeps going. The other end opens into her school. After searching; she finds the photo. Then, she sees Mr. Eugley, the janitor, staring at the Shorter Way Bridge and her bike. He shrieks at her to leave, so she does. Two days later, Vicky hears her mother talking on the phone about him.
