Summary

Chapter 9 is Tuesday, 25 June. Alix and Josie meet up at the housing estate where Josie grew up to meet Josie’s mother Pat. Pat is welcoming and animated. Alix notes the contrast between Josie and Pat. Alix interviews Pat about Josie’s birth. Pat explains she was young and unmarried and going to university and how Pat always meant to go back and finish her degree. Alix begins to see Pat as “a raging narcissist” (79). At home, Alix observes how Nathan is being “extra nice” (80). Nathan asks about the new podcast, but Alix tells Nathan he will have to listen. Alix feels that if Nathan has secrets than “she should have some too” (81).
