Wednesday, pp. 73-111 Summary
Toby drives Sully to the OTB, most of the men there are retired and are betting on horse races. Sully places his bet and sees Carl Roebuck as he walks out of the OTB. Carl stops to say hello to Clive Peoples. Sully walks into Rub and tells him that they have work. They take Bootsie's, Rub's wife's, car from the Woolworth parking lot.
The temperature has dropped so they drive the truck out of the mud. As they finished the second load, Carl arrives. He wants Sully to work the next day, which is Thanksgiving. He agrees to pay them time and one half. When Carl leaves, they finish the job. Rub wants to stop and eat but Sully says no.
Sully remembers Carl's father, Kenny, whom he had worked for. When Sully's residence burned from a cigarette...
