Summary
In Chapter 3, the protagonist contemplated “baby hitler” (39) and the common thought experiment in which people imagined going back in time and killing Adolf Hitler during infancy to prevent the Holocaust. She also thought about the human tendency to be suspicious of people from other cultures. Continuing her tour through Europe, the protagonist went to Australia, where she was asked by a cab driver about racism in America. In England, she discussed Brexit—the U.K's decision to exit the European Union—with an interviewer for the BBC. On a train, she watched two young people converse lovingly with one another in Czech. In Provence, she was kissed by a stranger, and in Germany, a professor remarked to her, “I almost feel like as a man, I can't say anything” (45).
