Summary

In Chapter 10, JJ visits Sylvia. They are thrilled to see one another. JJ has not been to the house since he was twenty. He explains he has parked around the corner. She realizes JJ does not want to be seen by anyone. JJ explains he goes by “Jay” now rather than “JJ,” and that he wants to invite Sylvia up to his place on the mountain. JJ explains he has made his money in being a machinist, and that there is money to be had in the business if the contracts can be found. He also flips houses. Sylvia explains she is almost retired, while JJ says he can see her roof from his deck. Sylvia confronts JJ about why he has come back. She tells him that Ava is married now to Henry Bailey.
