Chapters One - Three Summary
The Mediator #2: Ninth Key by Meg Cabot begins with the main character, 16-year-old Susannah Simon, meeting with the principal of Junipero Serra Mission Academy high school, Father Dominic. The two discuss what the Father calls a gift, and what Susannah considers a curse: their shared status as mediators, i.e. guides for the troubled souls of those already dead, yet stuck in the spiritual limbo between life and death. Before meeting Father Dominic, Susannah thought she was the only mediator in the world. The Father admonishes Susannah for engaging in physical battle with her ghosts, telling her that she is to gently guide her ghosts to where they are destined to spiritually rest.
Susannah's mother, a broadcast news reporter, remarried and moved her daughter from New York to California, where the teenage mediator attempts to overcome her...
