Galaxy "Alex" Stern
Alex is a college freshman at Yale who holds the position of Dante within Lethe House, as she learns the basics of magic and rituals from her Virgil, Darlington. Alex wears all black, has black hair and black eyes, olive-colored skin, and is so thin that Darlington comments that she looks “malnourished” (32). Though Alex is useful to Lethe for her unique ability to see ghosts, academically, she is greatly behind. Because of her academic shortcomings and background as a drug addict, Alex does not quite feel like she fits in at Yale. At the beginning of the novel, Alex is relatively reserved, and Darlington picks up on the fact that she is “self-conscious” (38). However, Alex is also incredibly witty and sarcastic, and always has a clever comeback in her conversations with others.
