Summary

In Chapter 16, Alex returns to her dorm to check on Mercy. Finding her asleep, Alex tells Lauren that she got rid of the video. Later, Alex convinces Mercy to come out and join them for dinner. Alex tells Mercy that she cannot let Blake control her life. Alex reveals that she let her own sexual assault “wreck” her life (263), and she does not want the same to happen to Mercy. Mercy dresses in jeans and a turtleneck before leaving for the dining hall.

Alex hopes that Manuscript succeeded in getting rid of the video, but is doubtful when she hears some boys laughing. However, the boys are not laughing Mercy, but at a video of Blake.
