Summary
Chapter 8 begins with Alex and Dawes’ arrival at the morgue. Alex sends Turner a text saying, “We need to talk” (134), and tells Dawes to text her if the front desk worker leaves her position. Alex approaches the front desk woman, Moira, and claims that Detective Turner said she could see Tara’s body. She lies and says Tara is her cousin, and before Moira can protest, Alex calls Turner and hands her the phone. The call goes to voicemail, just as Alex hoped; she knew if she he would ignore her need to talk. Moira leaves a voicemail, but as Alex plays the part of the mourning cousin, Moira lets Alex go see Tara.
A coroner comes out to assist Alex, and she gives him a coin of compulsion. With the coroner under her spell, Alex begins the ritual. She sings a chant...
