Part 3, Chapter 3 Summary

O'Brien explains the three stages of Winston's' reintegration: learning, understanding and acceptance. Room 101 will be his entrance into the second stage.

Winston learns that O'Brien is one of the authors of Goldstein's' book. He explains how it is all nonsense and would never happen. Winston remembers that he understood how the Party's' system worked but he never got a handle on why. O'Brien explained the why very simply, that the Party wants power for its own sake.
