Naheed Mohamadi

Naheed Mohamadi is among the middle school students in the novel. Naheed is a Muslin who has lived in America her entire life. She has never even visited Iran. As an adolescent, Naheed is beginning to feel self-conscious about the stares she receives when she is seen outside her hometown wearing her hijab. She wishes that she were as willing as her younger sister to teach others about their religion and the reason that they dress the way they do.

Naheed’s conflict comes when she unintentionally causes Eliza to be teased by asking her to stop asking questions about Naheed's hijab. Naheed realizes that not only has she not taught others about her religion, she has also not acted as she claims she believes she should. Naheed comes up with a plan to apologize to Eliza.
