Summary

Nightbitch attended Jen’s party. Located “in a development called Prairie Breeze,” her house resembled a castle (186). Dressed similarly to Nightbitch, Jen explained her inspiration for the house and obsession. Nightbitch was fascinated by Jen’s strangeness.

Jen introduced her to the other mothers, many of whom were also named Jen. They talked about their husbands and kids. Once they were all drunk, Nightbitch asked Jen about her college major. Jen talked about studying communications and working for a PR agency. Then she donned “that blank mommy-stare” (189). Nightbitch felt guilty for asking questions that upset her.

As Jen led the group, describing the herbal tinctures and their effects, Nightbitch suddenly realized that she “needed other women, other mothers” (191). She agreed to “join the team” (193).
