Summary
Around the time that things began “to come together,” Nightbitch went out “with some old friends from grad school” (141). Among the friends were the working mother and the videographer. Nightbitch was initially delighted to be around them. As the evening wore on and the women failed to engage her, Nightbitch felt increasingly frustrated. She was irritated by their artistic talk and their condescending manner. She tried telling herself they “were her friends,” but still felt hurt and angry (143). She munched through an endless salad, telling herself she was “a Zen cow” (144). The meditation did not work. Nightbitch jerked up from the table and howled. She yelled that she “could crush a walnut with [her] vagina” (146). On her way out of the restaurant, she grabbed the meat off someone’s plate and ate it.
Outside, she ran through the dark. She stripped off her clothes...
