Summary
Nightbitch’s husband scolded her for leaving the boy alone. She did not respond, because she “wanted her secrets to remain secrets” (95). Being a dog was like art, and as with a piece of art, talking “about it too much” would ruin it (95).
She decided not to apologize either. Her husband never apologized to her (96). He did not apologize, for example, when he knocked down and killed her peanut tree.
Her husband confessed that he had momentarily thought Nightbitch was “that dog” (98). They started laughing, then grabbed each other and wrestled. When the cat ran through, they joked about killing her.
That afternoon, Nightbitch and her husband had sex in a way they had not done in a long time. Still, Nightbitch thought it strange that her husband did not try to understand “the presence of the dog he had seen” (99).
