The letters and numbers stand for Brotherhood Front, Unit 8, Unit 2, Unit 5. The symbolism is a result of a training exercise in Belov where Khristo's Unit 8 was declared second place, and this listing, 825, is where Kulic believed the standings should have been. This simple code, first etched on a train panel on the return trip to Moscow from Belov, was used briefly again when Khristo, Kulic, Voluta and Goldman hid a stray dog from their supervisors in the school. As the young men went out into the field of espionage and war, they found this code to be a way of letting the others in the unit know that a message was from them, or that one of the unit was going to be instrumental in assisting them in their moment of need.
