Part II, Chapter 21-25 Summary
Secretary of Energy Klein calls Mercier to tell him that he has found that the Department of Energy did receive the funds he was questioning, but they were immediately sent to the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA). Mercier tells him he will continue the investigation. Mercier catches Sandecker when he is jogging and tells he wants to talk about the doodlebug, not knowing that it is an underwater probe. In response to Mercier's request, Sandecker says he will have a complete report to Mercier within two weeks. They agree on one week.
Later that evening, Ramon calls Sandecker to tell him that the Doodlebug is being shadowed by an unknown ship. Meanwhile, Pitt is watching the submarine on the Doodlebug's equipment. The Doodlebug is the world's most advanced research vessel. Pitts draws the sub closer and...
