Chapter 50 Summary

Jill returns with some shopping bags, which contain some toothpaste and a videotape of A Man and a Woman. John tells Jill about his meeting at Windows on the World the next morning. He tells her that Bud Mitchell will be there, and he wants her to be there, too. John explains to Jill that Ted Nash, Liam Griffith, Mr. Brown, Jack Koenig and a police captain named David Stein will be there, along with someone from the attorney general's office who John has asked to attend. John explains that the person will be the "referee," and the videotape will be "the game ball."

Jill tells John that she does not understand who is keeping the tape a secret and why, and John says he does not know either. John explains to Jill that the videotape will be shown, but she does not...
