Chapter 7 Summary

Tom follows John outside, and the two men discuss Tom's theory of what happened to the plane. Tom first explains that he does not believe the conspiracy theory that the plane was hit by a U.S. military missile. As Tom explains, there would be no way that it could remain a secret if that many people know about it. Tom goes on to say that he doesn't believe that the crash was caused by a hand-held surface-to-air missile because the range of a hand-held missile is too short to have hit the plane. Tom also says he does not believe that a radar-guided missile was used because nothing showed up on the radar that night except for one blip, which was later determined to be a glitch.
