Hilbery House at Cheyne Walk
The Hilbery house is home to a number of important meetings throughout the novel, and serves as a place where characters can discuss private matters. It is also a meeting place for many elite English men and women associated with the Hilberys. The drawing room serves as the primary space for entertaining, intimate discussion, and leisure time spent among the Hilberys themselves. Off the drawing room is the room of Alardyce relics that plays such a pivotal role for Mrs. Hilbery’s work on her father’s autobiography.
The house at Cheyne Walk is also representative of family life more generally, and serves as a staple of confined domesticity compared to the bustling energy of the city outside.
