Summary
In Chapter 32, the two couples – Rodney and Cassandra, and Katherine and Denham – spend the afternoon in the Hilbery house. They all decide to spend the evening seeing a play, and Cassandra observes how in sync Katherine and Denham appear to be as they walk along outside. The next day, Aunt Celia arrives and demands to speak to Mr. Hilbery. Mrs. Milvain tells Mr. Hilbery that Cassandra has stolen Rodney’s love and that Katherine has entangled herself with the lower-class Ralph Denham. Mr. Hilbery confronts Katherine about this claim, and Katherine tells him that she is no longer engaged to Rodney. Rodney arrives and tells Mr. Hilbery that he is in love with Cassandra. Mr. Hilbery, angry, tells Cassandra that she must leave and that Rodney is no longer welcome in his house. Meanwhile, Katherine and Denham discuss whether or not they should...
