Scene 11. Nicholas and Smike arrive again in London, which is described by Narration as busy, crowded, and full of contrasts - life and death, wealth and poverty, all side by side. Nicholas goes immediately to see Noggs, but finds he's not home. Scene 12. He pauses outside a coffee house just as Hawk, Verisopht, Pluck and Pyke arrive. When Nicholas overhears them talking about Kate he follows them inside and listens as they talk in less than polite terms about her.
