Generational Legacies
The influence of prior generations hangs heavily over the current generation, and this is something Annie comes to terms with while in heaven. Progress is an iterative process, and as Sameer illustrates to Annie, "we build on the shoulders of those who came before us" (62). Though he faced a terrible accident, Sameer used his pain as an influence and driving force, becoming a doctor that specializes in reattachment of limbs. His dedication to his profession eventually helped Annie as well. Though her life after the accident was made very difficult by her scarred hand, she received a second chance that allowed her to live her life going forward.
