Chapters 46-48 Summary
Stone spends the day trying to stay busy and avoid thought of Cary's marriage. Going over the case in his mind, Stone cannot manage to find anything that points to Barron Harkness as a suspect. Remembering that Van Fleet had some issues while in medical school, Stone heads to Physician's and Surgeons Hospital and meets with Dr. Garfield.
Garfield tells him that Van Fleet was a promising student but had acted strangely. Van Fleet did not like dealing with male patients unless forced. One evening, Van Fleet had been caught having sex with a sedated patient and was thrown out of the program. Stone wonders if Van Fleet is hiding the fact that he is gay.
In chapter forty-seven, Stone wakes up to find Cary in his home, naked. The two make love and Stone tells her they are disgusting, continuing...
