Summary

Chapter 4 is prefaced by a drawing of a group of White students and a group of Black students fighting over Jordan. Andy is pulling Jordan by the leg toward the White group, while Drew is pulling him by the arm toward the Black group.

Jordan describes how he tries to fit in with each crowd as he travels from Washington Heights to Riverdale on the bus. To fit it, he starts out wearing a hoodie and sunglasses. By the time he reaches Riverdale, he writes that he tries not to look cool at all. He believes he cannot even draw in his sketchbook because someone might think he was going to “tag” (57) the bus.
